MELBOURNE: Charges over protest


Police have arrested two people as part of the investigation into a protest in Melbourne where police were allegedly assaulted.
Detectives from the North West Metro Regional Crime Squad have been investigating the protest which occurred on Saturday, October 19, in Melbourne.
It is alleged that a counter protest group attended and hurled rocks, glass bottles and rotten fruit at police.
Two men were arrested as part of a series of warrants executed by detectives.
This includes a 21-year-old Port Melbourne man who was charged on Tuesday (Nov. 25) with two counts of assault police and two counts of hinder police.
A 56-year-old from Kilsyth was also charged on Tuesday with assault police and hinder police.
Both men were bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on May 26.
The investigation has now led to a total of three people being charged, with police continuing to seek the public’s assistance to identify those involved.
