MURRINDINDI: Emergency generator stolen from Marysville
UGFM radio station’s mains back up power generator was stolen on Sunday night (Jan. 4) from the Marysville and Triangle transmission site at Mt Gordon.
“The Khola stationary generator was used to supply power during mains power outages and emergencies to keep our UGFM FM 98.5 Transmitter on air and also for backup power to the fire watch tower and other emergency services on site,” said a UGFM representative.
“This is extremely disappointing especially as this generator plays a vital role in community safety for the triangle area as the local emergency broadcaster.
“This now means we have to physically take a generator to site during periods of loss of power and stay on site until power returns to keep on air. There will be a delay in this occurring.”
The thieves broke into the secured compound and removed the Khola generator that weighed around 500kg causing all power to the site to be lost.
Police from Alexandra went to the scene early om Monday morning (Jan. 5) and along with Marysville Police are investigating the theft.
