MORNINGTON PENINSULA: Speaker issues writ for Nepean by-election
The Nepean electorate by-election for State Parliament will be held on Saturday, May 2.
Legislative Assembly Speaker Maree Edwards issued the writ for the by-election last Friday (Mar. 13).
The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Sam Groth (lib.) on Friday, February 13.
Voting will be compulsory for all enrolled voters in the Nepean District. Voters must be correctly enrolled by 8pm Friday (Mar. 20), said Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel.
Nominations opened on Monday this week (Mar. 16). One high-profile can didate is Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Cr Anthony Marsh.
The Herald Sun newspaper revealed on Friday that Cr Marsh had supported Labor candidate Paul Mercurio for the seat of Hastings at the 2023 State Election.
The close of nominations for registered political party candidates is 12 Noon, Thursday, April 9. Independent candidates have an extra day to nominate.
The ballot draw will take place at 1pm on Friday, April 10.
