WYNDHAM: ‘Not a Play Station game’
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision in Hoppers Crossing on Friday morning (Mar. 13).
It is alleged that a stolen grey Skoda sedan with seven teenage occupants was pursing the occupants of a Toyota sedan, in what appears to be an attempted carjacking along Derrimut Rd just after 12 midnight.
As the vehicles travelled at a fast rate of speed, the Skoda is alleged to have deliberately collided with the rear of that vehicle, before colliding with two other vehicles, a Ford sedan and Ford Ranger.
The Skoda rolled before coming to rest in the front yard of a residence.
One of the occupants, a 15-year-old boy from the Wyndham area, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The front passenger, a 16-year-old girl from the Wyndham area, sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital under police guard.
Police guard
A third occupant, a 17-year-old boy from the Wyndham area, was arrested and was transported to hospital under police guard.
A fourth occupant, a 16-year-old girl from the Wyndham area, was arrested and was not injured.
A fifth occupant, a 14-year-old boy from the Wyndham area, later presented to a nearby hospital where he was arrested.
The sixth and seventh occupants of the vehicle fled the scene and detectives are urging these people to come forward.
It was unclear who was driving the Skoda at the time of the incident.
Officers seized an edged weapon at the scene and located a quantity of alcohol inside the vehicle.
The three occupants of the Toyota sedan were not injured.
Stolen
The sole occupants of both Fords sustained minor injuries.
The Skoda is alleged to have been stolen from Yellow Box St in Maidstone during March 11-12.
Inspector Craig McEvoy (pictured), Major Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a shocking circumstance that could have resulted in multiple fatalities. We could have had five, six, seven people deceased.
“Members of the public who are going about their everyday life have now been significantly impacted by the trauma of something completely avoidable.
“This is not a PlayStation game where you can hit reset and start again. This is real lives, real situations that cannot be undone,” Insp. McEvoy said.
