KNOX: Boronia Station precinct upgrade begins
Major construction has commenced on the Boronia Station precinct. There will be important accessibility and safety enhancements for passengers when it is completed in Spring.
The upgrade will include a new landscaped community plaza on Dorset Rd – delivering more green open space and seating, and providing a new community meeting place.
A new signalised pedestrian crossing will make it safer for people to access the station and nearby shops.
Lupton Way will close to traffic from Friday (Mar. 27) until late September.
Crews will widen the station concourse, build new platform shelters and upgrade seating and lighting, enhancing comfort and safety through improved visibility across the plaza and station area.
Gabrielle Williams, Minister for Transport Infrastructure, last year unveiled final designs for the precinct, featuring a new station forecourt and an expanded concourse to improve connections across the rail line.
A new pocket park near Boronia Junction Shopping Centre will include garden beds, trees, seating and a nature play area, creating a welcoming green space for the community.
More than 50 new trees and 3000 plants and shrubs will be planted across the station precinct, Boronia Station Reserve and the new plaza.
The station will feature an upgraded pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way, better footpaths to both station entrances and more bike hoops for cyclists.
“Our community will benefit from a modern, more accessible station that will transform the heart of Boronia and make it easier for people to catch the train,” said Bayswater MLA Jackson Taylor.
