MELTON: Police blitz at Caroline Springs
Police issued more than 50 infringement notices and impounded six vehicles in a one-day operation targeting impaired and dangerous driving in Caroline Springs.
Operation Max Power, which took place on Friday, May 22, saw general duties police, as well as officers from Road Policing Command’s Drug and Alcohol Section, Highway Patrol and Solo Unit, saturate Caroline Springs Boulevard and the surrounding shopping precinct.
During the operation, officers were completely dumbfounded when they detected a BMW 125i allegedly travelling at 130-kmh in a 60-kmh zone.
The probationary driver had his vehicle impounded and is expected to be charged on summons.
Police conducted more than 950 breath tests, impounding a vehicle after the driver allegedly returned an evidentiary reading of .113.
Two allegedly unlicensed drivers also had their vehicles impounded after returning positive oral fluid tests.
Officers issued 52 infringement notices for offences including driving an unregistered car, speeding and failing to turn on headlights at night, as well as arresting two people for outstanding warrants.
The Sheriff’s Office Victoria attended during the day, where 20 debtors were identified for 260 warrants, owing a total amount of $122,350.01.
Twelve debtors also paid a total of $35,769.39 for 216 warrants.
A further five vehicles remain wheel clamped following 92 warrants, with an outstanding total of $42,447.20.
Police will continue to actively patrol and conduct similar operations in the Caroline Springs and surrounding areas to stamp out poor and dangerous driving behaviours.
