YARRA RANGES: Mooroolbark Library closes temporarily
Yarra Ranges Council will begin works to repair and improve the Mooroolbark Library building this week, with limited library services temporarily relocated to Mooroolbark Community Centre while building works are carried out.
The library building and public toilet, at Station St, Mooroolbark will close on Friday (June 5) at 5.30pm and reopen on Friday, June 12, at the Mooroolbark Community Centre at 125 Brice Ave, Mooroolbark.
Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Richard Higgins, said the works would include replacing the existing roof, a new suspended ceiling with improved lighting, a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and structural footing works to connect the front canopy to the main building.
“Libraries are much-loved in the community. The improvements will ensure the building remains a comfortable, modern space for community to connect and learn for years to come,” Cr Higgins said.
Your Library will continue to operate a mini library service, Mooroolbark Express, at the Mooroolbark Community Centre at 125 Brice Avenue, Mooroolbark, while the works are completed. Public toilets are available at the nearby Mooroolbark Railway Station and Red Earth Community Park, also on Brice Avenue.
Storytimes will continue in the Red Earth Room from Wednesday June 10, followed by the opening of Mooroolbark Express on Friday, June 12.
At Mooroolbark Express readers will be able to:
• Browse and borrow new fiction
• Collect reservations
• Return borrowed items
• Borrow picture books
• Read newspapers
• Print and photocopy
• Use a library computer
After hours returns will not be available at the Community Centre.
Full library services will be available at the nearby Lilydale and Montrose Library. The works are expected to take three months to complete, weather dependent.
