SOUTH-EAST: Dandenong, Cranbourne carjackings
Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following two alleged attempted carjackings and one carjacking.
Officers were called after a 30-year-old man approached a Hyundai Sante Fe on High St, Cranbourne, about 4pm on Thursday (June 18).
Police will allege the man opened the rear passenger door before making demands for the keys.
It is understood that when the driver, a 45-year-old man refused, he was assaulted. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The 30-year-old then allegedly fled the scene on foot.
A short time later, police will allege the same man approached a Nissan Qashqai on New St, Dandenong.
It is understood he entered the front passenger door, again making demands for the keys to the vehicle.
The driver, a 32-year-old woman, exited the vehicle before the man fled in the Qashqai.
The 30-year-old allegedly made demands for the keys to a man’s Toyota Camry, before fleeing the scene on foot.
The man of no fixed address was interviewed and charged with a number of offences, including attempted carjacking and carjacking. He was remanded to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court.
