POLITICS: 2 MPs quit, as Carroll becomes Premier
Mill Park MLA Lily D’Ambrosio has quit Cabinet and will not contest the State Election in November.
Eastern Victoria MLC Harriet Shing has also resigned from Cabinet, and has indicated that she will leave Parliament.
The shock political announcement follows the outing of Jacinta Allan as Premier, to be replaced by Niddrie MLA Ben Carroll.
Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio, the last serving member of Daniel Andrews’s class of Cabinet and Health Minister Harriet Shing, a staunch ally of both Andrews and Allan, made their announcements on Thursday (July 30).
Mr Carroll said: “I want to thank my long-time colleagues – Lily D’Ambrosio and Harriet Shing – for their service over many years as they retire from the Ministry and at the end of the year, the Parliament.
“Over many years of dedicated service, they have brought compassion, determination and a strong sense of purpose to their roles, delivering outcomes that have improved the lives of Victorians and strengthened the communities they represent.”
Mr Carroll said Ms D’Ambrosio’s leadership has made Victoria a national leader in renewable energy, and laid the foundations for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
