MARIBYRNONG: Second teen charged over Maidstone gym fire
Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad have charged a second teenage boy as part of their investigation into a suspicious fire at a Maidstone gym.
The 17-year-old boy from the Hume area was arrested on Friday morning (Sep. 4) and interviewed by police.
He was subsequently charged with a range of arson offences and was to face a children’s court.
Earlier in the week another 17-year-old boy from the Hume area was arrested and charged with arson, reckless conduct endangering life, possess anything with intent to destroy or damage property, handle stolen goods and theft.
The arrests follow a large fire at a gym on Hampstead Rd in the early hours of August 6.
A number of people were in the premises at the time of the fire, however o one was physically injured.
The building sustained significant damage as a result of the fire.
Detectives will allege the arson was a targeted attack.
