OBSERVER: Cherry Hill Orchards
The cherry-picking season returns to the Yarra Valley, opening November 13 as blossoms transform into juicy cherries that visitors can pick straight from the tree.
The pick-your-own experience invites visitors to wander through the rows of cherry trees and fill their buckets with ripe fruit, enjoying cherries to pop in their mouth as they pick.
Cherry-picking at CherryHill Orchards has become a summer tradition for families and friends looking to escape the city and experience a working orchard at one of its most exciting times of year.
CherryHill grows more than 30 varieties of cherries, grown across Victoria’s Yarra Valley, Murray Valley, Goulburn Valley and High Country regions.
Different varieties ripen throughout the season, meaning the cherry experience continues to evolve as summer progresses. Last year’s release similarly highlighted the orchard’s 30-plus varieties and the different growing regions and seasonal timings that determine availability.
The season also arrives just in time for the festive period, when Australian cherries become a staple of Christmas tables, summer entertaining and holiday celebrations. Visitors can pick their own to take home, while enjoying the ultimate farm-to-table experience along the way.
For 86 years, the Riseborough family has been growing cherries in Victoria. Now in its third generation, CherryHill Orchards’ cherry-picking season will run from November 13 to January 8 at Coldstream and Wandin East.
