Box Hill Divisional Response Unit officers have charged a man who allegedly called an Uber ride-share vehicle to try and get away from police in Clayton.

Police responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of Ferntree Gully and Blackburn Rds just before midnight on Tuesday, January 9.

Officers confirmed that one of the vehicles involved in the collision was allegedly stolen and the driver was no longer on scene.

Shortly after, local Police and the Dog Squad located a ride-share car leaving a nearby hotel carpark.

Nunawading Highway Patrol intercepted the car on Wellington Rd after noticing a passenger in the back seat, when a man allegedly ran from the scene.

A 31-year-old man was arrested following a short foot pursuit.

The man has been charged with:

• theft of motor vehicle

• commit indicatable offence whilst on bail (x2)

• unlicensed driving

• drive in a manner dangerous

• careless driving

• fail to render assistance and other traffic related matters

• possess methylamphetamine, and

• breach of bail conditions (x2)

• deal property suspected proceeds of crime.

The Ferntree Gully man was remanded to appear before Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on January 18.
