KINGSTON: Meth trafficking charge
Police have arrested and charged a man with trafficking methylamphetamine after seizing $40,000 worth of the drug in Moorabbin.
Members from the Caulfield Divisional Response Unit executed a search warrant at a business on Alex Avenue about 8am on Monday, July 28.
Detectives located and seized quantities of cash and several types of drugs, including 150gm of methylamphetamine, with an estimated potential street value of $40,000.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with trafficking methyl-amphetamine, possessing proceeds of crime, and possessing methylamphetamine, ecstasy, MDMA and cannabis. He was bailed to appear in Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on October 21.
Charges may be upgraded pending forensic analysis of the purity of the methylam-phetamine.
Caulfield Divisional Response Unit Acting Detective Sergeant Stuart Burnham said:
“Anytime we can remove drugs from the hands of traffickers, we are making our streets safer for residents and visitors.
“Illicit drugs fuel other criminality, including violent assaults, robberies and shoplifting, just to name a few. We will continue to target anyone who tries to make a profit off vulnerable members of the community with a drug addiction.”
