STONNINGTON: 11 compete for Prahran state seat

Polling booths will be open from 8am-6pm on Saturday, February 8, for the Prahran by-election caused by the resignation of former local Greens MLA Sam Hibbins.

Although Premier Jacinta Allan refused to nominate a Labor candidate, there are 11 candidates for the seat:
• Nathan Chisholm
• Rachel Westaway, Liberal
• Janine Hendry
• Genevieve Gilbert, Family First Victoria
• Alan Menadue
• Tony Lupton
• Mark Dessau, Libertarian Party
• Angelica Di Camillo, Australian Greens
• Dennis Belic, Sustainable Australia Party – Stop Overdevelopment/Corruption
• Buzz Billman
• Faith Fuhrer, Animal Justice Party

Pundits are speculating whether or not the Liberals can re-claim the seat from the Greens.
The Legislative Assembly seat takes in parts of Southbak Melbourne, Prahran, South Yarra, Windsor, and an area alongside East St Kilda.

Prahran was first contested in 1889 making it one of the state’s oldest electorates. It had been held by both sides of politics over the decades before the Greens’ breakthrough victory in 2014.
