GREATER GEELONG: Unlicensed, under the influence, unbelievable
A Norlane man has lost his vehicle and is expected to be charged on summons after allegedly travelling at twice the speed limit and nearly double the alcohol limit in Winchelsea.
Colac Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed checks on Willis St when they detected a Ford Escape at an alleged speed of 121-kmh in the 60-kmh zone about 11.40am on FrIday (Oct. 31).
Officers intercepted the vehicle and established the 45-year-old driver was unlicensed.
He returned a positive preliminary breath test and was transported to a police station where he returned an alleged breath alcohol reading of .091, nearly twice the limit.
The man’s vehicle was impounded at a cost of $1305 and he is expected to be charged on summons with several traffic offences.
It came as Victoria Police launched Operation Furlong, a statewide road policing operation taking place over the Melbourne Cup long weekend.
There was police high visibility and enforcing across the state’s roads in an effort to reduce road trauma.
There was a significant focus on major roads heading to areas in regional Victoria, with police on the lookout for speeding and distraction offences.
Operation Furlong concluded at 11.59pm on Tuesday (Nov. 4).
