OBSERVER: The Silent Anzac
With the annual Remembrance Day looming next week, Skunkworks Productions is bringing its popular show The Silent Anzac to Hawthorn Arts Centre this weekend.
The Silent Anzac is a moving tributed to one Australia’s most storied submarines and the men and women of The Great War.
The show received standing ovations when it was performed at Australia House in London and at the Australian Embassy in Paris.
Starring acclaimed Melbourne soprano Margaret Haggart and young singer Meggy Ann Davies Smyth, joined by popular television and stage actor Matt Hetherington, it also features actor William McInnes as the narrator, musician Jamie Lawson and Glenferrie Brass, conducted by Phillipa Edwards.
The Silent Anzac follows the story of one of Australia’s most celebrated submarines, and local resident Les Scouller. It blends original music narration and historical imagery into a poignant remembrance of sacrifice and service.
“The Silent Anzac is a salute in sound – respectful, evocative, and uniquely Australian,” musical director Edwards commented.
See The Silent Anzac in its 10th anniversary performance on Sunday November 9 at 2.30 pm in Hawthorn Town Hall. You can book your tickets at Boroondara.vic.gov.au/events/silent-anzac
