WHITTLESEA: ‘Potential breaches by Mayor’

City of Whittlesea Mayor Cr Aidan McLindon had potentially breached the Model Councillor Code of Conduct, it was suggested at an unscheduled Council meeting held on Tuesday last week (Feb. 4).
The meeting was mostly closed to the public, with the open section of the meeting lasting just three minutes.
The meeting was held at the South Morang municipal headquarters, and Cr McLindon was due to be absent with an apology, according to the agenda.
Cr McLindon had previously announced that he was temporarily standing aside as Mayor, whilst he stood as a candidate for last weekend’s Werribee by-election (Feb. 8).
However, the draft minutes indicate that Cr McLindon opened the meeting at 7pm, and closed the meeting to the public at 7.03pm. Cr McLindon abstained from the vote to close the meeting.
The agenda said the meeting was to consider details relating to the confidential matter in accordance with a section of the Local Government Act.
