VICTORIA: Dysons sells for $200 million
Dysons Bus Services has been sold to the Kinetic Group, an Australian-based multinational bus company that wholly owns a number of bus operations in Australia and New Zealand, including the SkyBus business.
Reported sale price is in the vicinity of $200 million.
Kinetic also operates buses and railway services in the United Kingdom, Sing-apore, Germany, Ireland and Norway, and the U-Go Mobility joint venture in Sydney.
Kinetic is majority owned by Canadian pension fund OPTrust and British infrastructure manager Foresight Group which acquired Kinetic’s previous co-owner Infrastructure Capital Group in 2022.
Kinetic will acquire 100 per cent of the Dysons business.
Operating for 73 years, Dysons is one of Australia’s most established bus and coach companies, operating bus and coach services across Victoria and New South Wales, including metropolitan, regional, school and charter services.
The company employs nearly 1200 people and operates a fleet of 625 buses and coaches across 12 depots, with a strong presence in metropolitan Melbourne, south-east and north-east regional Victoria and regional New South Wales.
The proposed transaction follows a strategic review undertaken by the Dysons Board after securing the Metropolitan Zero Emissions Bus Franchise in 2025. That review identified the need to strengthen the business’s capacity for long-term investment and growth to remain competitive in a changing public transport environment.
Dysons Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Jakab said the decision had been made following careful consideration.
“This agreement reflects the Board’s view on what is in the best interests of the long-term future of the business and our people,” Mr Jakab said.
“Kinetic brings additional scale and financial capacity that can support continued investment.”
