HOBSONS BAY: Suspicious fire at Spotswood
Fire Rescue Victoria were called to an incident on Hudsons Rd, Spotswood, at 2.29am Tuesday (May 26) after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a factory fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a 60m by 30m factory involved in fire.
Occupants of nearby apartments were safely evacuated. Fire crews donned breathing apparatus to knock down the blaze.
Three aerial appliances also responded to fight the fire from above.
The building contains asbestos and FRV firefighters are implementing decontamination procedures.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene. Water, gas and electricity companies are also on scene.
The incident was deemed Under Control at 4.45am.
While firefighters continued to attack small pockets of fire that remained at the Spotswood incident, operations were scaled back.
FRV’s Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems unit was on scene.
The Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire is being treated as suspicious.
