DAREBIN: Speedster nabbed in Reservoir
An alleged driver has been arrested after a stolen vehicle reached alleged speeds of 120-kmh in a 60 zone in Melbourne’s north in the early hours of last Tuesday morning (June 2) .
Officers on patrol caught site of an allegedly stolen silver Subaru Liberty on Barry Rd in Campbellfield about 1am.
Police kept eyes on the vehicle as travelled along Mahoneys Rd.
Officers attempted to intercept the Subaru before it allegedly took off at speed, reaching 120-kmh in a 60 zone.
The Subaru was allegedly dumped on High St before the driver took off on foot along Broadway.
With the assistance of the Dog Squad, the alleged driver was arrested sitting at a bus stop in the vicinity.
A 31-year-old Donnybrook man was to be interviewed by investigators.
Investigators allege the Subaru was stolen from a Mickleham address in May.
The arrest and stolen vehicle recovery forms part of Operation Nighthawk.
Operation Nighthawk sees uniform police and detectives team up with specialist resources to target offenders and disrupt their activities.
Those in stolen cars or driving around the streets recklessly – who police believe are often out to commit further offences – are targeted and arrested during the operation.
All areas of Hume are a focus for the operation, including Broadmeadows, Coolaroo, Craigieburn, Mickleham, Meadow Heights and Roxburgh Park.
Officers in charge of the operation work to co-ordinate the resources in the field, providing directions to police based on real-time intelligence.
