HUME: 157-kmh at Campbellfield
An unlicensed teen will have some explaining to do after being caught at nearly double the speed limit in Campbellfield.
Fawkner Highway Patrol officers spotted the Mazda 3 travelling along Sydney Rd just after 7am on Sunday, June 21.
The vehicle was detected at an alleged speed of 157-kmh in the 80-kmh zone.
Officers intercepted the car and spoke with the driver who allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test before refusing to accompany officers for an evidentiary test.
The 16-year-old from the Hume area is expected to be charged on summons with speeding, unlicensed driving and refusing to remain for an oral fluid test.
He and his two mates were forced to walk home after the car, which belongs to a family member, was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $966.50.
