YARRA RANGES: Man charged over Lilydale fires
Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a series of fires in Lilydale.
Police and emergency services were called to 10 separate bin, rubbish skips and spot fires across Lilydale between 8.45pm and 11.30pm on June 219.
The estimated damage totals more than $200,000.
Incidents include:
• A chair was damaged in Marketplace shopping
• A bin fire on Main St
• Three bin fires on Clarke St
• A bin fire on Hutchinson St
• Three industrial skip bins and a bin were set alight in Beresford Rd
• A skip bin at a medical centre in Berwick St
No one was injured during the incidents however significant damage was caused to the medical centre.
Police arrested a 21-year-old man in Lilydale on Wednesday (July 1).
He has been charged with
• Criminal damage by fire (x10)
• Reckless conduct endangering life
• Possess a drug of dependence
• Resist police
The man, of no fixed address, has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 3.
