NORTH-WEST: Search for 50 riders
North West Metro Regional Crime Squad detectives are continuing to investigate and appeal for witnesses to come forward after up to 50 motorcycles were seen being ridden erratically across Melbourne’s western suburbs.
It is understood the group was riding in convoy along the Tullamarine and Westgate Freeways on Sunday, June 21, allegedly driving at speed, weaving through traffic and cutting off motorists.
Following a near-miss with a Hyundai i30 on Greive Pde, the driver of the vehicle came to a stop nearby on Melbourne Rd in Williamstown about 4pm.
It is alleged some of the riders then surrounded the vehicle, damaging the side windows and the windscreen.
The driver sustained minor injuries when the windscreen shattered.
Officers have been told some of the riders were armed with weapons during the incident.
The riders fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested and subsequently charged an 18-year-old Meadow Heights man and 17-year-old boy from the Hume area in relation to the incident.
Detectives continue to work to identify those involved, with additional arrests expected to occur.
