CARDINIA: Murder alleged at Cockatoo


Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man following a hit-run collision in Cockatoo.
It is alleged a cyclist was struck by a vehicle on Pakenham Rd about 3pm on Friday, June 26.
The cyclist, a 47-year-old man of no fixed address, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He died in hospital on July 11.
The driver of the vehicle allegedly failed to stop at the scene.
The vehicle was located nearby at a reserve on Hillside Rd.
Initially, a 44-year-old Cockatoo man was arrested and has since been exonerated.
Detectives later arrested and charged the alleged driver, a 27-year-old Cockatoo man, in Cockatoo on June 27.
He was charged with intentionally cause serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury.
These charges have since been upgraded to murder.
The 27-year-old man has been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 18.
