GREATER DANDENONG: Drugs, handgun, gold seized at Keysborough
A man faces serious drug trafficking charges after police seized a large commercial quantity of methylamphetamine and heroin from a home in Keysborough.
Following an eight-month long investigation into the alleged trafficking of several illicit substances across the Keys-borough area, detectives from the Springvale Divisional Response Unit arrested a man about 7.30pm on Wednesday (July 22).
It followed a vehicle intercept on Corrigan Rd at Noble Park.
Police will allege the passenger in the rideshare vehicle was attempting to conceal two backpacks containing quantities of drugs believed to be heroin and methylamphetamine in power and brick form. The driver was not aware of the alleged activities of the passenger.
Following further enquiries, police executed search warrants at a home on Bloomfield Rd and a unit on Lenore St in Springvale about 3.30pm on Thursday.
A search of the property allegedly uncovered drugs, weapons and other items, including:
• Approximately 2kg of substances believed to be methylamphetamine and heroin with a combined estimated potential street value of over $2.2mil;
• Almost $85,000 in cash suspected of being the proceeds of crime;
• A handgun;
• Prohibited weapons including an extendable baton and credit card gun;
• A large quantity of illicit tobacco; and
• A smelted gold bar worth approximately $80,000.
A 46-year-old Keysborough man has since been charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of methylamph-etamine and heroin as well as trafficking cannabis and prescription medication and possessing a firearm, weapons and proceeds of crime.
He was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 30.
A 50-year-old Keysborough man was cautioned for possessing a weapon and cannabis.
A 56-year-old Keysborough man was arrested at the home however was released pending further enquiries.
