MURRINDINDI: Enrol for Kinglake Ward by-election
Murrindindi Shire Council is encouraging Kinglake Ward residents to make sure they are enrolled to vote and that their details are up to date ahead of the upcoming by-election.
The by-election will elect a new Councillor to represent Kinglake Ward following the resignation of former Cr Jodi Adams in August.
The Victorian Electoral Commission will conduct the by-election, with the electoral roll closing at 4pm on Wednesday, September 23.
Murrindindi Mayor Cr Damien Gallagher encouraged people eligible to vote in the by-election to make sure they are ready to have their say.
“Having a local Councillor representing the interests and priorities of Kinglake Ward is incredibly important, and I encourage everyone who is eligible to participate in the by-election,” Cr Gallagher said.
“The first step is to make sure you are enrolled and eligible to vote before the roll closes on September 23. I encourage people to visit the VEC website to check their eligibility and enrolment requirements.
“Local government makes decisions about many of the services, facilities and issues that affect our communities every day, so this is an important opportunity to have your say on who
represents Kinglake Ward.
“To vote in the Kinglake Ward by-election, you need to be enrolled for Kinglake Ward. This includes eligible voters enrolled on the State electoral roll who live in Kinglake Ward. “Some people who own property in Kinglake Ward but live elsewhere may also be eligible to enrol and vote in the by-election.
“Enrolment requirements vary depending on your circumstances. If you live in or own property in Kinglake Ward, check your enrolment status and whether you need to take any action before the enrolment deadline.
“You can do this by visiting the VEC website https://www.vec.vic.gov.au/voting/current-elections/murrindindi-shire-council-kinglake-ward-by-election to check eligibility and enrolment requirements before the electoral roll closes at 4 pm on Wednesday, September 23.
“The election will be conducted entirely by post. Ballot packs will start being mailed to enrolled voters from Monday, November 16, with voting closing at 6 pm on Friday, December 4.
“People interested in standing as a candidate will have an opportunity to learn more about the election process, with a candidate information session scheduled for Wednesday, October 14.
“Candidate nominations will open on Monday, October 19, and close on Tuesday, October 27.
