Confirmed: Largest readership of any local newspaper in Shire


The Local Paper has again been confirmed as the local newspaper with the most number of readers each week.

The Local Paper has more than 10,000 readers in print and online. Its circulation area in the North-East includes Murrindindi (includes Yea and Alexandra), with 70 distribution outlets including Whittlesea, Kinglake, Mansfield, Seymour, the Yarra Valley, Plenty Valley and Yarra Valley.

The Local Paper is the area’s BIGGEST local newspaper. Last week’s Local Paper issue was 72 pages (the Alexandra Standard was 24 pages; the Yea Chronicle was 20 pages).

The Local Paper has the reputation as a newspaper of integrity. It is headed by Ash Long, who has been with district newspapers since 1972. A winner of the ‘Victorian Country Newspapers Association’ Best Local Reporter award, Long is the area’s senior newsman, with 46 years’ local experience. He is a former awards judge appointed by the Australian Suburban Newspapers Association.

The Local Paper’s print run is 3675 copies. This is more than double that of the Alexandra Standard (1548 copies), and seven times that of The Yea Chronicle (524 copies). Source: Victorian Country Press Association website.

The Local Paper is published by Local Media Pty Ltd, which also publishes the Melbourne Observer (established 49 years ago, in 1969).
