NORTH, EAST: Car chase across suburbs
Police have arrested two people following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the Moonee Valley area on Thursday (Oct. 8). Unmarked police vehicles initially spotted the allegedly stolen Hyundai in Raleigh St, Maribyrnong, at 2.45am.
The car was followed to Mt Alexander Rd, Essendon, where it was detected allegedly traveling 138km-h in a 60-kmh zone.
The Hyundai was followed by police to Bell St in Coburg, where it was observed to be driving erratically, driving on the wrong side of the road and having near misses with other vehicles.
Police deployed stop sticks at the intersection of Bell St and St Georges Rd in Preston, which damaged a front tyre of the Hyundai.
With the assistance of the Air Wing, the Hyundai, now driving with only three tyres, was followed through multiple northern and eastern suburbs before it was dumped in Deep Creek Rd in Mitcham.
The male driver and his female passenger fled on foot to nearby Antonio Park where police swiftly arrested the pair without incident.
The driver, a 25-year-old Mill Park man, allegedly failed a roadside drug test and was found to have numerous warrants.
