Performers from Breakthrough Inclusive Performance Co (BIPC) will participate in the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Australia 2026 National Games on October 19.
Based in Thornbury, the dance school specialises in teaching students with intellectual disabilities. The students have been invited to perform in the Opening Ceremony at Margaret Court Arena and will showcase a contemporary dance piece, as well as being a part of a larger dance group.
BIPC Creative Director, Dianne De Battista, says: “They are all so excited to be a part of this wonderful event. This is the 50th Anniversary of the Special Olympics and we are so proud to have been invited to participate.”
Breakthrough Inclusive Performance Co. is dedicated to empowering school leavers and adults with intellectual disabilities to thrive in the Performing Arts, providing specialised training in dance, singing and acting with a focus on individual learning needs. The program provides young adults with intellectual disabilities the chance to transition from students to performers.
The Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Australia 2026 National Games will be held at Margaret Court Arena on Monday October 19 from 3pm to 5pm.
