OBSERVER: Remembering My Wild

Award-winning Melbourne artist Elli Bardas will present Remembering My Wild, a pop-up exhibition with a new iteration of her Wild Things series, at 230 Chapel St, Prahran from November 21 to December 6.
The exhibition will be open every day from 12 Noon-7pm. Admission is free.
Combining her love of sculpture and portrait photography, Bardas has created an all-encompassing colourful world that centres the human spirit, exploring ideas around personal empowerment.
The works invite viewers to consider what might be possible if we imagined a world shaped by joy, love and abundance rather than fear and division.
The Wild Things are said to be visual representations of our individual, quirky selves. Bardas describes them as talismans: reminders of personal power and of who we are before the world asks us to conform.
Bardas works with an unconventional mix of materials, including feathers, flowers, foam, pom poms, pins, pipe cleaners, beads, glitter, ribbon, streamers and studs.
Play is central to her process, and she chooses materials that are fun to work with and encourage experimentation. The use of colourful, easily accessible materials references ideas around joy and play as well as aiming to flatten art making hierarchies.
For Bardas, each image is a celebration of our individuality and is designed to convey feelings of joy, hope and empowerment.
