Murrindindi Shire Council is putting a renewed emphasis on the ‘Kinglake Ranges’.
The Council believes this will ensure the area is meeting the changing needs of local communities, and for a thriving and prosperous future for the Ranges.
Craig Lloyd, Murrindindi Shire Council Chief Executive Office, said he was keen to advance the work which began a few years back.
“Locals will recall the work done in 2015 to put in place a Kinglake Flowerdale Toolangi Plan,” Mr Lloyd said.
“One of the recommendations made by the independent panel and community members in this Plan was to look at the identity and status of Kinglake West and Pheasant Creek.
“We think the time to revisit this question is now. We want to ask the community its views about whether these locality names are the right names, or whether there might be better alternatives.
“To this end, we will shortly put out a survey to those who live in Kinglake West and Pheasant Creek to ask their opinions.
“We are keen to see what the community thinks about this.
“It might be that community members want their townships to keep their current names. “They might want the township to be formally known as ‘Kinglake West-Pheasant Creek’.
“Or they might want to see a complete name change that they think better reflects the local identity of the area.
“Regardless of the naming outcome, we also plan to look at the question of township boundaries in Kinglake West
and Pheasant Creek.
“Some of the boundaries don’t seem to make a lot of sense as they are currently drawn – some boundaries run along roads, which means people on one side of the road live in one township and people living opposite live in another. “Locality boundaries do not necessarily reflect the existing township names.
