Murrindindi Shire Council will soon be talking with the community about making some changes to the Kinglake Streetscape to improve the look of the town and make it work better for locals and visitors alike.

Council CEO Craig Lloyd said the Kinglake community had attended last month to hear the Victorian Government announcement of a $750,000 investment into the ‘Kinglake Town Centre and Streetscape Renewal Project’.

“Council has contributed $249,000 to this Project and is working to secure a further $750,000 in federal funding. This funding will allow us to create a new vision for the Kinglake Streetscape – one that will beautify the town and also enable some works to improve the way the town functions,” Mr Lloyd said

“We want the Kinglake Streetscape to be contemporary and attractive for locals and visitors alike. It also needs to be safer for residents and more pedestrian-friendly. It should be a convenient place to shop and access services. There should also be spaces for the community to meet and gather.

“Our next step is to talk to the community about creating a new vision for the town centre. We will be setting up some public consultation sessions to talk through this important project for Kinglake in the next few months. Keep an eye on Council’s Facebook page and on website to find out when and where. There will be posters around town showing how you can get involved.

“Separately, the community will soon start to hear about another new development proposed for Kinglake called ‘Kinglake Village’. Developers Roscorp have purchased a parcel of land at 1 Whittlesea-Kinglake Road in Kinglake. They are proposing to build a new commercial and retail hub in that location,” Mr Lloyd said.

“We understand the developers will soon be consulting with the community about this proposed new development. If you are interested in this development, this is your opportunity to have your say. Council expects to receive an application for a permit to construct the buildings following the developer’s consultation with the community.

“Please note that the proposed Kinglake Village development is a separate project to Council’s Streetscape works. But if the Village project goes ahead, the two projects will need to be considered side by side to ensure they complement one another,” Mr Lloyd said.

“The Kinglake community has been calling for a boost to make the town more attractive and usable for locals for some time. We’re pleased that all our efforts and the work of the community in getting this far are coming to fruition. These are exciting times for Kinglake! It is our hope that these works will also attract more visitors to Kinglake so we can showcase the beauty of our region and help boost the town’s economy.
