CASEY: Advocacy for food security
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen and the Council have committed to improving food security across Casey, as food insecurity continues to rise.
With 40 per cent of Casey residents experiencing some level of food insecurity in the past year, Cr Koomen and Council will advocate to the State and Federal Governments to secure greater support for food security in Casey.
“One in 10 residents ran out of food and couldn’t afford more, and 22 per cent skipped meals due to financial hardship and the cost-of-living pressures,” Cr Koomen said.
“Access to food is a basic human right and we are committed to looking at both emergency relief and long-term systemic change to ensure fewer people need food relief in the long term.”
