Work ahead for Yea Tigers
Sunday, January 20, 2019
This weekend’s A-Grade cricket action saw Yea travel to Broadford in the first week of a two-day match.
Broadford won the toss and elected to bat first, on an excellent batting pitch.
Yea made an early strike, with Marc Steiner taking the first wicket with the score on just 13. Yea continued to bowl well, however could not back it up with their efforts in the field, dropping a number of catches as the second wicket partnership added 63 to have Broadford cruising at 1/76.
A three-wicket spell from Andrew Chisholm and a wicket from Ben Tarran brought Yea right back into the game, taking the score to 5/103.
The game continued to stay in the balance, as both runs and wickets flowed, as the score moved to 9/172 when opening batsmen Ash Wood departed for a well-made century.
It is at this point that the game changed, howeverYea bowled poorly and dropped numerous simple chances in the field, inexplicably allowing the last wicket partnership to add 82 runs before Broadford were eventually bowled out an imposing total of 254.
The Tigers have much to work on this week after a poor last hour of cricket has left then with a mountain to climb with the bat next Saturday.
