Saleyards concern
• Yea trader Ian Findley was organising a letter of concern about Yea Shire Council’s decision ro re-open the Yea Saleyards.
Mr Findley said he did not disagree with Yea having saleyards, but the Council should consider locating them outside the residential area.
The Council was giving public notice that it intended taking out a $20,000 loan with the funds used to refurbish the yards,
New counsellor
• Daryl Callander, assisted by Ian Bell, took on the position of counsellor for Rotary Club of Yea inward exchange student Bobby Sen after member David Lawson resigned from that position, 30 years ago.
Cattlemen visit
• Chief Officer of the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Hasatoshi Nadao, and Mr Toshiaki Itoh of Nosawa & Co., along with Mr Peter Kidman (Beef Consultant for Dalgety Livestock Exports) spent a day as guests of Mel and Gina Ryan at Penbro Park, Glenburn.
Minister in Yea
• New Federal Minister for Consumer Affairs and Minister assisting the Treasurer, Peter Staples, was visiting Yea for a public luncheon meeting.
The meeting took place at the Country Club Hotel, Yea, with Mr Staples attending at the invitation of Peter Cleeland, Federal Member for McEwen.
Bishop to visit
• Anglican Bishop of Wangartata, the Rt. Rev. Robert Beal, was due to visit Yea in October 1987 for St Luke’s Day.
He was due to conduct the Sung Eucharist, with visitors due to attend from partner parish St Peter’s, Fawkner.
Tourism permits
• Yea couple Rob and Thérèse McGregor won Yea Council permission to run a ‘tourist establishment – host farm’ on their William-son Rd, Killingworth property.
A maximum of six people were to stay on the property at any one time, the Council said.
Doctor’s pay rise
• Yea Shire’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Philip N. Basser, was voted a pay rise from $150 per year to $600. Dr Basser, new Yea Police Sgt. Brendan Scully and Mrs Scully, were invited to the November Council meeting by Shire President Cr David Lawson.
No gratuity
• Yea Council decided not to give a gratuitous payment to its administrative officer, Peter Dinning, who was leaving to take up a position with the City of Mildura.
Mr Dinning asked that he be paid a gratuity equal to the value of his 20 days sick leave accumulated in his 12 years service.
Alex. rates rise
• Alexandra Shire Council intended to increase its rates by 10 per cent in 1987.
A committee proposed the rate rise, with Shire Secretary Gerry Walshe saying that inflation and loss of grant money meant that the rates had to be increased by this amount.
Glenburn opening
• The new Glenburn CFA station was due to be opned by Doug Lade of Highlands.
