YARRA: E-scooter firms leave

Yarra Council, chaired by Mayor Cr Stephen Jolly (pictured), has rid itself of hire e-scooters, after raising fees by 400 per cenmt.
Under the change, operators Lime and Neuron, would be forced to pay an extra four times in fees in fees to the council — an increase to $5 per e-scooter per day, up from $1.
“Council is disappointed that Lime and Neuron have decided to pull their e-Scooters out of Yarra. The Council is clear that it will not continue to subsidise these services from ratepayers’ money.
“Council has gone above and beyond to try and make the scheme work and understands many in the community will be disappointed at this decision.
“We will work with the operators to transition scooters out of the City in the next few weeks, as well as proceed with the procurement process for a new e-Scooters contract.”
The Council is making noises that e-Scooters will re-appear in Yarra later this year.
