Fears for Green Wedge

Eltham MLA Vicki Ward this week told State Parliament about fears in Nillumbik Shire about the future of the Green Wedge.
“My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Planning, and the action I seek is for the minister to visit and meet with members of my local community who have concerns about Nillumbik’s potential changes to their green wedge management plan,” Ms Ward told the Legislative Assembly.
“Minister, as you are well aware, my community is passionate about their green wedge and very passionate about its preservation.
“Many residents have contacted both me and the member for Yan Yean with concerns about Nillumbik’s process regarding their green wedge management plan, and what their plans, onc agreed to, could mean for the future of our green wedge.
“You would also be aware of the stron concerns my community had last year when Nillumbik tried to sell off 17 reserves, and most recently this year the old shire office site and Eltham Preschool, among other public assets.
“I ask the minister to come to my community once Nillumbik has endorsed their green wedge management plan and sit down with locals and have a chat about what this could mean for my local community,” Ms Ward said.
