PORT PHILLIP: 240 new homes for South Melbourne
The State Government is fast-tracking the delivery of more homes close to public transport, after giving the greenlight to a South Melbourne development.
Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny (pictured) announced the approval of more than 240 new homes on Dorcas St in South Melbourne, close to the new Anzac Station which will open with the Metro Tunnel later this year.
The 20-storey Time & Place development will deliver a mix of studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, alongside retail space.
Fast-tracked through the Development Facilitation Program, the project is part of the State Government’s broader strategy to deliver more homes where Victorians want to live – close to transport, jobs, schools, and services.
Transformational infrastructure projects like the Metro Tunnel and Suburban Rail Loop are unlocking opportunities for the State Government to deliver thousands more homes close to public transport.
“We’ve fast-tracked more homes in the heart of South Melbourne to ensure hundreds more Victorians can live around the corner from the brand-new Anzac Station as well as trams, the Botanical Gardens, schools, shops and services.” Ms Kilkenny said.
“We know more Victorians want the choice to live close to public transport and projects like the Metro Tunnel and the Suburban Rail Loop are helping deliver just that – enabling thousands more homes to be built in areas well-connected to public transport.”
Albert Park MLA Nina Taylor said: “Hundreds of people will soon have the opportunity to live in this incredible spot in South Melbourne, with the new Anzac Station, the Shrine of Remembrance and the Botanical Gardens right at their fingertips.”
