Shire seeks to reassure clients

Murrindindi Deputy Mayor Cr Margaret Rae is seeking to reassure aged and disability services clients that they are in good hands.

The Council issued a media statement this week to reassure the clients that everything will be fine with the new service providers.

“From January 1 2020, aged and disability services in Murrindindi Shire are being delivered by experienced not-for-profit providers Nexus Primary Health and Menzies Support Services,” the statement started.

“Positive Ageing and Inclusion Portfolio Councillor, Margaret Rae, said Council is delighted to be supporting Nexus Primary Health and Menzies Support Services as they take on this important role in assisting our seniors and people with a disability.

“We have worked closely with Nexus and Menzies in the months leading up to Council’s transition away from providing Aged and Disability Services and continue to work with them to make sure our community gets the help they need.

“This has been and always will be a priority for Council,” Cr Rae said.

“We are also continuing to support our seniors and people with a disability with services that promote positive ageing, access and inclusion and community wellbeing.

“We want everyone to feel part of our community and to
help those who might need a hand to do that.

Our recently-appointed Access and Inclusion Officer will work with our seniors and people with a disability to help meet those needs, through a focus on accessibility and positive ageing’, Cr Rae said.

The Access and Inclusion officer’s role is to:
• Support individual commu-
nity members to navigate the My Aged Care and disability support service systems.
• Provide information, advice, referrals and advocacy for services.
• Support the development of policy, plans and projects that improve health and wellbeing n Work with our residents, services and groups to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate and be included in a range of activities.
