UPDATE: An electricity user in Acheron reports power being restored at 12.38pm Thursday. A resident of Bayley St, Alexandra, says their electricity was restored at 1.25pm.

EARLIER: The Alexandra community is suffering again today (Thurs.) with yet another interruption to the electricity supply.

Power went off this morning, and Ausnet says the expected re-connection time is 6pm. Earlier, the estimated re-connection time was set at 1pm.

The cost of electricity interruptions to local businesses is estimated to be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Electricity work crews appear to be baffled at the cause of this outage. Three crews are reported to be working on restoring power in the region.

More than 2000 customers are affected, including 1701 in Alexandra. The outages are also affecting other areas including Acheron, Bonnie Doon, Cathkin, Eildon, Fawcett, Ghin Ghin, Gobur, Kanumbra, Koriella, Molesworth, Rubicon, Taylor Bay, Yarck, Whanregarwen and Woodfield.
