YARRA RANGES: Man charged after Powelltown motorcycle collision
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man in relation to a fatal collision in Powelltown earlier in Jnauary.
Police executed a search warrant on Wednesdayt morning (Jan. 22) and arrested the 22-year-old Mooroolbark man. He’s been charged with:
- culpable driving causing death
- negligently causing serious injury
- dangerous driving causing death
- dangerous driving causing serious injury
- reckless conduct endangering life
- reckless conduct endangering serious injury
- drive in a manner dangerous
- drive at a speed dangerous
- careless driving
He was also given an immediate driving ban.
The charges follow an incident where two motorcyclists were allegedly travelling at high speeds east on Yarra Junction-Noojee Rd on January 8.
One of the riders, a 23-year-old Northcote man, was involved in a head-on collision with an unrelated motorcyclist, a 77-year-old Croydon man, who was travelling west about 1.30pm.
The 77-year-old rider was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
The 23-year-old rider died at the scene.
The 22-year-old Mooroolbark man, who was riding behind the deceased at the time of the collision, was not injured.
He was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 29.
