BRIMBANK: Police probe suspicious fire
Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances following a suspicious house fire in Deer Park on Sunday morning (Apr. 27).
Emergency services were called to the unoccupied home on Carroll St about 7am.
An arson chemist was expected to attend the scene.
Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of a single storey brick house and the response was escalated.
Crews wore breathing apparatus to attack the fire internally as well as prevent flames spreading to adjoining properties, which were in close proximity.
One occupant that safely evacuated was assessed by Ambulance Victoria for smoke inhalation.
The incident was deemed ‘Under Control’ at 8.13am.
In total, 30 firefighters and 10 appliances, including an aerial appliance, responded to the blaze.
Cause of the fire is not yet known but will be investigated by FRV’s specialist Fire Investigation Unit.
Firefighters were to remain on scene for some time, to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire and detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
