MELBOURNE: Burger with the lot
A man has been charged after allegedly stealing a man’s vehicle while he was ordering a burger in the city in the early hours of Wednesday morning (May 14).
South Melbourne Police charged the 39-year-old man with theft of motor vehicle, handling and receiving stolen goods, possessing proceeds of crime, committing an indictable offence while on bail, resisting a police officer during arrest and unlicenced driving.
The Melbourne man was remanded in custody and was to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
The charges follow the alleged theft of a motor vehicle from outside a fast-food store on Latrobe Street about 1am.
Police were able to track the vehicle which had been driven out into the eastern suburbs before returning to the city.
The Air Wing followed the Lexus from overhead and units on the ground converged as it parked out the front of a convenience store near the intersection of Clarendon and Bank Sts in South Melbourne about 2am.
A man was seen exiting the vehicle, which police swiftly blocked in.
The man allegedly attempted to run back to the car and aggressively resisted arrest.
