Friday, October 21, 2022
Two people have been arrested after a car involved in a Doncaster burglary hit a police vehicle while attempting to evade officers in Fitzroy North on Wednesday morning (Oct. 19).
Officers sighted the black Toyota RAV4 on Rae St, Fitzroy North, about 9.35am on October 19.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle and pulled up behind it before the RAV4 reversed into the front of the police car, causing minor damage, and drove away from the scene.
The Air Wing followed the Toyota before it crashed into an unoccupied parked van on Albion St.
A 30-year-old Doreen man and 30-year-old Reservoir woman attempted to run away but were arrested nearby a short time later.
The RAV4 was allegedly sighted at the scene of an aggravated burglary in Tracey St, Doncaster, earlier the same morning where jewellery and electrical items were stolen.
The offenders fled that scene after the occupant of the house screamed when they realised people were inside their home.
The 30-year-old Doreen man has since been charged with a range of offences including aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle, reckless exposure of police officer to risk by driving and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
He was remanded in custody to appear before the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on October 26.
The 30-year-old Reservoir woman has been charged with a string of offences including two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of theft of motor vehicle, possess controlled weapon and possess drug of dependence.
She was remanded in custody to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 28.
