{"id":5755,"date":"2025-04-04T14:54:45","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T03:54:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dindi.com.au\/wp\/?p=5755"},"modified":"2025-04-04T14:54:45","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T03:54:45","slug":"observer-pilot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dindi.com.au\/wp\/2025\/04\/04\/observer-pilot\/","title":{"rendered":"OBSERVER: Pilot"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wonderful Pilot program founded by Dylan McBurney last year, helps stage the first long-form comedy shows for emerging young comedians in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.<br>A comedian himself, Dylan experienced the barriers young people face when transitioning from presenting five-minute sets to their own solo shows.<br>Six hand-picked comedians with proven comedy experience are given a half-hour slot at the Festival and then assisted with financing, producing and creative development.<br>This year&#8217;s comedians selected for the Pilot program were Kushi Venkatesh, Naomi Ross, Kate Kindleysides, Romeo Delinicolas, Ned McVicar and Hugo Foxworthy, who all performed in three different double-billed shows at DoubleTree by Hilton<br>I had the pleasure of attending A.I (Accurate Information) and Mangoes and Manhood, presented respectively by Brisbane-based Kate Kindleysides and Darwin\u2019s Romeo Delinicolas.<br>Kate Kindleysides merges clever visuals with her energetic, quirky mission (sent by Lord Zuckerberg) to differentiate fact from fiction. From AI to the moon landing, from Spiderman to Nicotine patches, Kate doesn\u2019t miss a beat with exploring hard truths.<br>Kate\u2019s various characterisations during her storytelling are excellent. It would be great to see Kate utilise these dramatic skills further and for one (or more) of these characters to play larger roles in the show.<br>Also presenting a debut MICF performance, transgender comic Romeo Delinicolas instantly engages his audience with fascinating stories of growing up on a mango farm in Darwin.<br>Complimented by visuals, Romeo candidly discusses adolescence and transitioning from \u2018Greek girl\u2019 to &#8216;farm boy\u2019.<br>Joining a Sydney cult, gendered biscuits, a colour-blind dog having a birthday party, nits, and the resolving of conflict with a box of mangoes \u2013 this charming raconteur\u2019s broad topics were most enjoyable.<br>Congratulations to Kate Kindleysides and Romeo Delinicolas on their debut MICF shows and may there be many more,<br>And bravo! Dylan McBurney on the creation and implementation of the Pilot program.
