HUME: $2m tobacco raid at Campbellfield
Police have charged a man after seizing illicit tobacco valued at close to $2M and a loaded firearm during a warrant in Campbellfield on Thursday (July 31).
A 30-year-old Craigieburn man was arrested at his home address.
A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a conducted energy device, knife and a large quantity of cash.
A second warrant was then executed in Campbellfield, with police locating over 4700 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at close to $2M and a loaded handgun.
The Craigieburn man was interviewed and charged with firearm, prohibited weapons and proceeds of crime offences.
He was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
The investigation remains ongoing and police will look at whether the illicit tobacco seizure is related to any other incidents or organised crime groups.
