EAST: Loop underway at Burwood
Works are proceeding on the Suburban Rail Loop with the start of major construction at the Burwood station site.
Harriet Shing (pictured), Minister for the Suburban Rail Loop, announced contractor Terra Verde has moved onto site, as they prepare for tunnelling works on the northern section to kick off next year to connect Burwood and Box Hill.
A 19-metre-deep launch shaft has been built on site to support tunnelling works – where two Tunnel Boring Machines will launch from Burwood towards Glen Waverley next year, with two more to launch towards Box Hill.
Following the relocation of underground services to make way for the twin tunnels, Terra Verde will now focus on building the infrastructure to support tunnelling works and the station box for the new underground station.
The future SRL station at Burwood will bring a train connection to Deakin University for the first time.
The station will integrate with local tram and bus services.
