OBSERVER: HIT Productions owes $2 mil. in debts
HIT Productions, led by actress Christine Harris (pictured), has gone into liquidation, with debts totalling $1,995,000.
Liquidator Timothy Brace says the Men-toner based company owes $567,000 to the Australian Taxation Office.
An amount of $91,000 in superannuation remains unpaid, with a further $36,000 owed to actors and creatives.
Some 30 regional and suburban venues are listed amongst the creditors such as Araluen Arts Centre in Alice Springs which is owed $29,700.
A private investor is owed more than $400,000. A travel company has not been paid more than $200,000.
David Spicer, reporting for Stage Whispers magazine, said that HIT Productions had received Government grants in recent years to tour productions such as The Sunshine Club and Waltzing The Willara.
Christine Ava Harris was sole Director of HIT Productions. In 2013 she placed another company, Follow Your Dreams (Aust) Pty Ltd, into liquidation, citing debts of $1.7 million.
Ms Harris is reported to have explained that HIT Productions was unable to secure sufficient future funding and working capital.
Ms Harris played Amy Carson in the Crawford Productions’ Carson’s Law. and had the role of Pippa Reynolds, daughter of the governor in Prisoner.
In 1997, she was named ‘Victorian Entrepreneur of the Year’, for her efforts in establishing the theatre touring company.
