KNOX: 1750 homes for Wantirna
The State Government has approved plans to transform the former George St quarry in Wantirna South into a new community with 1750 homes and 80 hectares of green space.
The project delivered by Mirvac will provide homes for around 5000 people, while expanding the Dandenong Valley Park-lands.
The redevelopment will be delivered over the next 10 to 15 years, turning the former quarry into a new community.
The first stage of around 300 homes is expected to begin in early 2027, alongside new sporting and recreation facilities.
This includes two ovals, a sporting pavilion, playground, cricket nets and new walking trail connections to the existing trail network.
Across the precinct, residents will also benefit from 68 hectares of parkland, new roads, cycling links and public open space.
The plans were shaped through consultation with the community, Knox City Council and key agencies, with environmental protections in place as the quarry site is rehabilitated.
Sonya Kilkenny, Planning Minister, said:
“We’re transforming underutilised land into a new community with more than a thousand homes, more parkland and more opportunities for families.
“We want to make it easier to build homes everywhere, because Victorians deserve to have a choice on where they want to live.”
