STONNINGTON: Cars rammed at Malvern East
A 43-year-old man has been charged after allegedly ramming several vehicles and threatening police with a chainsaw in Malvern East.
Emergency services were called to reports the Malvern East man allegedly crashed into a parked car before fleeing the scene shortly before 5.30pm on Saturday, July 18.
The man then removed the registration plates from his vehicle before driving erratically and dangerously around his neighbourhood.
It is allegedly that he purposely crashed into two vehicles, including one containing a 12-year-old boy.
He then tried to access a fourth vehicle, containing and woman and child, and chased them in his vehicle as they fled the scene.
None of the victims were physically injured.
Police will allege the man returned to his St Johns Lane home where he threatened a nearby resident.
The 40-year-old male victim managed to run to safety and notify police.
Investigators will allege that on arrival, the man was armed with a chainsaw and threatened police before barricading himself inside his home shortly after 5.50pm.
Critical Incident Response Team members safely took the man into custody about 9.30pm.
Public Order Response Team members charged the man with:
• conduct endangering life
• drive manner dangerous
• criminal damage
• unlawful assault
• careless driving
• make threats to inflict serious injury
• other traffic-related matters
The man appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court where he was bailed to reappear on September 2.
Police have also been made aware of a video of a man being assaulted while parked in his car on St Johns Lane in Malvern East about 5.30pm.
It is still being determined whether this incident is linked.
